Farrer Court

Last week I passed by Farrer Court. Horror of horrors! The block where I used to live was encased in green netting and half gone.

That was block B, later known as 151B. Usually, driving along Farrer Road, I could actually see the unit that was my home for 12 years. The block was visible from the road, and my home was third unit from the top, extreme left-hand side.

Well, it is but a memory now.

During the recent Hari Raya public holiday, I took a trip to Queensway Shopping Centre. When I lived at Farrer Court, that was the closest shopping centre and I would go there to take my passport photographs and make my spectacles. And, of course, as students, we would do our photocopying there.

It has kind of changed, yet stayed the same. The layout is the same, although the tenant mix has changed somewhat.

The hawker centre opposite has changed too. The turtle soup stall has gone!

I used to stay in Farrer Rd. So we were neighbours. My block was Block 5 near the main road. I used to car pool with a colleague from Farrer Court. Those days we need to have at least 4 people before we can go into CBD. Sometimes I would go to the bus stop opp the market and pick up passengers there.

And hey, I too went to Queensway to make my specs and cut hair. I still go to my tailor there

I lived (rented) a flat at Block C, block nearest to the wet market in 1979 but I have never seen Chun See across the road.
